U.S. EPA to discuss the Renewable Fuels Standard:

IFQC and GBC will host a conference call with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to discuss the RFS rulemaking. Representing EPA will be Paul Argyropoulos, David Korotney and Paul Machiele, all of whom have been directly involved in the development of the RFS regulation. Our Flash Report (refer to report 202) provides an overview of related events organized recently by the EPA in conjunction with the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association as well as the Renewable Fuels Association as background information. .

Roundtable Briefing on Marine Fuels & Shipping:

IFQC has teamed up with IPIECA to organize an expert roundtable to discuss proposed changes to the international marine fuels regime under MARPOL Annex VI. The presentations and discussions will debate the likely cost and CO2 impact of refining and supply chain changes to manufacture marine fuels under a distillate-only scenario. The aim is to discuss and exchange information on :

  • the impact of fuel specification changes on CO2 emissions from refining and shipping,
  • plans towards regulation of CO2 emissions from the shipping sector, and
  • the feasibility of using refinery based carbon sequestration and storage.
